Strange Sea Life

A few weeks ago we were swimming at 9th Street in South Beach when my younger son discovered these strange creatures swimming near the sandbar about 100 feet out. We captured them to find out what they were. No one had ever seen anything similar - even charter boat fishermen who are out to sea every day ! Their only clue was the fact that seaweed had floated up from the Sargasso Sea between Brazil and West Africa. Anyone who does know, please comment below.

From my marine scientist friend:

"This is a sea slug, or nudibranch of the species Glaucus atlanticus. It has several common names including the blue sea slug, blue dragon, and sea lizard. You'll find good pictures and descriptions in the wikipedia entry for this species."
